Christian Hernandez, Facebook’s director of platform partnerships for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, today highlighted some of the startups that have just launched apps for Facebook Timeline. The start-ups launched their products today at The Next Web conference currently being held in Amsterdam. Altogether, 18 new timeline apps were launched from 11 different countries around the world, including France, Sweden, and Israel.
Hernandez, in a blog post on the Facebook Developer blog, took the time to point out that startups are not just coming out of the U.S. From the blog post:
More than 80% of the people on Facebook are based outside of the U.S., providing developers with the opportunity to reach a global audience through their apps. Today at The Next Web conference in Amsterdam, start ups from around the world are launching timeline apps to do just that, including donation site JustGiving (U.K.), travel planning site Tripbirds (Sweden), premium television site Canal+ (France), and iOS video editor app Magisto (Israel).
Spotify is the most notable foreign startup to partner with Facebook, and the partnership seems to have paid off. Hernandez states that last month there were around 1.5 billion shares from Spotify to Facebook. Another rising startup, Wooga, is a game developer that just hit 45 million monthly users of their games, such as Diamond Dash, which makes heavy use of Facebook’s Open Graph.
Hernandez did mention two U.S. companies, Fab.com and Gogobot, that are expanding their reach to global markets, but the focus was on international startups. Here is a full list of the apps launched today at the conference:
